FURMAN BATTLES UNC ASHEVILLE TO SCORELESS TIE

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Furman men's soccer team battled UNCA to a scoreless tie Friday in Asheville, N.C.

Furman attempted 12 shots on the afternoon, while UNCA tallied 11. Both teams had several chances to score in regulation and during the two overtime periods, but came up empty.

UNC Asheville goalkeeper Ben Betsalel saved a penalty kick by Furman's Clint Dempsey at the 20:50 mark in the first half to preserve the scoreless regualtion period.

"This is very frustrating," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We are struggling to score goals, we are struggling to put any pressure on our opponents and we are not going to beat anybody playing like this. UNCA gave a great effort today and played well."

The match was Furman's third straight overtime contest. The Paladins have two ties and one loss in those three matches.

Furman moves to 0-4-2 on the season, while UNCA is now 2-2-2.

Furman returns to action Sunday at home against Lipscomb.
