FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER ANNOUNCES 2003 SCHEDULE

GREENVILLE - A season opening contest versus top-ranked Maryland, battles with instate rivals Clemson and South Carolina and a tough Southern Conference slate highlight the 2003 Furman menšs soccer schedule.

Head Coach Doug Allison and the Paladins open their season on August 29, when they take on preseason top-ranked Maryland in the Diadora Challenge at Creighton University. Furman will face either Butler or national power Creighton in the tournament's second round on August 31.

The Paladins open their home schedule versus South Florida on September 5, in the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational. Coach Allison's squad will face St. Louis in the second round of the tournament on Sunday September 7.

Furman opens the 2003 Southern Conference schedule on September 13, with a home contest against the league's newest member, Elon. The Paladins also host conferece foes Wofford and Georgia Southern on October 7 and November 5, respectively.

Furman will make two trips to Clemson, S.C., this season. The Paladins will take part in the Clemson/Nike Soccer Invitational on September 26-28 against Coastal Carolina and Air Force before returning to Clemson to face the Tigers in the regular season finale on November 9.

The Paladins have qualified for the NCAA Tournament each of the past four seasons. Furman currently owns an NCAA record 43-match Southern Conference unbeaten streak as it has won the last four Southern Conference titles.

Furman posted a 19-3-1 mark in 2002 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament before falling 2-1 to Stanford in overtime.
