FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS LIPSCOMB 2-0

GREENVILLE - The Furman men's soccer team claimed its first win of the 2003 season with a 2-0 shutout of Lipscomb Sunday afternoon at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

The Paladins used two first half goals to put away the Bison. Senior Scott Hoch finished a McNeil Cronin cross at the 27:13 mark to put the Paladins on top 1-0.

The Paladins then extended its lead to 2-0 when Clint Dempsey drilled home a shot at the 39:43 mark.

"It is good to get that first win under our belt," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We need to continue to work hard and get ready for a challenging weekend ahead of us."

Despite Furman's struggles this season, the Paladins have now put together two consecutive shutouts and have allowed only two goals in its last four matches.

Furman improves to 1-4-2 on the season, while Lipscomb falls to 1-6. The Paladins travel to Clemson this weekend to compete in the Clemson Nike Soccer Invitational with matches against Coastal Carolina (Friday 5:00) and Air Force (Sunday 12:30).
