FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS GEORGIA SOUTHERN 2-0

GREENVILLE - Senior Scott Hoch scored two goals to lead the Furman men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Georgia Southern Wednesday evening in Southern Coference soccer play at Eugene Stone Stadium.

The Paladins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 12:20 mark when Hoch beat Georgia Southern keeper Adam Webb to a Josh Villalobos pass and headed it into the back of the net. Hoch netted his ninth goal of the season and second of the match just 23 minutes later. Furman keeper Alex Maslow sent a long ball that Hoch knocked in for the final 2-0 margin.

Furman controlled the marjority of possesion over the course of the match and outshot the Eagles 11-9. The Paladins also held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.

"I was very happy to see us come out tonight and create lots of quality scoring opportunities," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We took advantage of our chances in the first half and were able to put together back-to-back wins."

The win moves Furman to 5-7-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Southern Conference play, while Georgia Southern drops to 6-9-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.

With the victory, Furman will be the No. 4 seed in next week's Southern Conference Tournament in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Furman will face either Georgia Southern or Appalachian State in the opening round at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 14.

Furman returns to action Sunday when it plays its regular season finale at Clemson. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
