FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT DAVIDSON 1-0

DAVIDSON, N.C.- David Peoples scored on a penalty kick at the 58:03 mark to lift Davidson to a 1-0 victory over Furman in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Varsity Soccer Field in Davidson, N.C.

The win was Davidson's first over the Paladins since 1997 and keeps the Wildcats, 10-4-2 overall and 4-1 in the league play, in first place in the Southern Conference.

Peoples' goal, which was drilled by Furman keeper Alex Maslow, came after a hard foul in the box in the 59th minute.

The Paladins kept the pressure on Davidson for much of the second half, outshooting the Wildcats 7-6, but were unable to find the back of the net.

"This is definitely a tough loss to take against a strong Davidson team," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We had our chances to score in the second half, but we just could not capitalize."

The loss drops Furman to 3-7-4 overall and 1-2-2 in Southern Conference play.

Furman returns to action when it travels to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State on November 2.
