NO. 8 CREIGHTON TOPS NO. 9 FURMAN 3-1

OMAHA, NEBRASKA -- The ninth ranked Furman men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Creighton Sunday in the second round of the Creighton Diadora Challenge.

Furman took an early 1-0 lead when Clint Dempsey scored on a one-timer off of a Josh Villalobos free kick at 8:56 into the match. The Bluejays evened the match at 1-1 on a Zach Piercey goal at the 42:26 mark.

Creighton took the lead for good just eight minutes into the second half on a goal by Dave Minges. The Bluejays, ranked No. 8, put the match out of reach at the 79:39 mark when Julian Nash headed home a David Wagenfuhr corner kick for the final 3-1 margin.

The Bluejays outshot the Paladins 13-12 in the win.

Furman's Alex Maslow and McNeil Cronin were named to the Diadora Challenge All Tournament Team.

The Paladins will return to action on Friday when it hosts South Florida in the first round of the Diadora/Spinx Invitational at 7:30 p.m.
