FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER FALLS 2-0 TO 17TH RANKED COASTAL CAROLINA

CLEMSON, SC -- The 17th ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team defeated Furman 2-0 Friday night in the Clemson Nike Soccer Invitational at Riggs Field.

Coastal Carolina jumped off to a quick 1-0 lead as Joseph Ngwenya slotted home the ball from 10 yards out after receving a pass from Mubarile Chisoni. Coastal Carolina's lead was extended to 2-0 on an own goal as a Chanticleer cross was mistakenly knocked in by Furman defender Kenny Penn.

"We are still not putting forth the collective effort that we need to in order to win," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "Coastal Carolina is an excellent soccer team and we were beaten by a much better squad today."

Furman's Kevin Norman was red carded in the 64th minute for a hard foul, thus the Paladins played a man down for the final 26 minutes of the match.

Furman falls to 1-5-2 on the season, while Coastal Carolina improves to 6-1. The Paladins return to action Sunday in the Clemson Nike Soccer Invitational against Air Force, while Coastal Carolina will take on host Clemson.
