FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS APPALACHIAN STATE 2-1

BOONE, NC -- Luke Barbour knocked in a Josh Villalobos corner kick late in regulation as the Furman men's soccer team defeated Appalachian State 2-1 on Sunday evening in Boone, N.C.

After 71 minutes of scoreless soccer, Furman's Sean Murray put the Paladins on top 1-0 off a Clint Dempsey assist at the 71:49 mark. That lead did not last long, as Appalachian State's Brian Fowler found the equalizer two minutes later.

The score remained 1-1 until Barbour scored the game-winner at th 81:10 mark.

"I am glad to come away from here with a solid conference win," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "This is always a tough place to play. Hopefully this win will put us on the right track to finish out the regular season this week."

Furman improves to 4-7-4 on the season, 2-2-2 in the Southern Conference. Appalachian State falls to 5-10-1 overall, 3-4 in league play. The Paladins will host Georgia Southern Wednesday night in its final home regular season match of the season at 7:00.
