FURMAN TO FACE VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH IN NCAA TOURNAMENT SECOND ROUND

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team will travel to face eighth-seeded Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of the Furman-VCU match will face the winner of the Stanford-Portland match on Sunday afternoon, December 1.

Furman enters the match on a ten game winning streak with a 18-2-1 overall record.

Furman is coming off a 2-0 victory over Loyola (Md.) on Saturday. The shutout was Furman's tenth in a row, which ties the NCAA Division I record. Furman has not allowed a goal since the first half of a match on Oct. 5 against St. Louis. The Paladins also extended another school record as they have put together 942 consecutive shutout minutes.

VCU won the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) regular season and tournament titles and sports a 15-4-1 overall record. VCU won the CAA tournament championship with a 2-1 win over William and Mary.

Furman is making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its sixth overall. Furman and VCU have met only once before, with Furman earning a 3-0 victory last season at the Clemson/Nike Invitational. In that match, Sergei Raad scored a pair of goals to lead Furman to victory.
