COLUMBIA, SC -- Ricardo Clark scored at the 24:58 mark as the No. 14 ranked Paladins defeated No. 9 South Carolina in front of 2,822 fans. The play was set up as Andy Kidd crossed the ball into the penalty area. Clark chested the ball down at the 18-yard line, and blasted a shot past South Carolina goalkeeper Michael Bachman for his third goal of the season.
A gutsy Furman defense held off a Gamecock barrage in the second half. Paladin goalkeeper Alex Maslow made five saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.
"This is a huge win for our guys," said head coach Doug Allison. "It was great to come to Columbia and get a big win for Gray [Griffin]."
With the win, Furman improves to 12-2-1. South Carolina falls to 9-5-1, including three losses to opponents from the Southern Conference.
Furman returns to action on Wednesday, as it travels to face Georgia Southern in a match postponed due to the tragic death of Furman freshman Gray Griffin.
