FURMAN RECEIVES AUTOMATIC BID TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

MT. PLEASANT, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team received the Southern Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament today after weather conditions in the Charleston area caused the field to be unplayable. Furman was the highest seeded remaining team in the tournament.

Earlier on Saturday, Furman defeated UNCG 3-0. The match was called at the 73:49 mark due to unplayable field conditions. The VMI/Davidson semifinal match set for this afternoon was also cancelled.

With its win on Saturday, Furman extends its conference unbeaten streak to 43 matches, setting a new NCAA record. Furman surpasses the previous mark held by Clemson in the ACC from 1972-1980.

Furman's record now stands at 17-2-1. The Paladins will find out their first round opponent on Monday at 4:30 p.m. on the NCAA Tournament Selection Show broadcast live on ESPN News.
