FURMAN SOCCER LEADS NCAA IN SCORING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

GREENVILLE, SC--The NCAA recognized the 2001 Furman University men's soccer team as the top scoring team in the nation this week for the second consecutive season. The Paladins scored 68 goals in 22 matches for a 3.09 goals per match average.

In 2000, the Paladins scored 76 goals in 23 games to lead the nation with a 3.30 goals per match average.

The 2001 Paladins were led by Furmanšs all-time leading scorer and three time All-American, John Barry Nusum, who tallied 16 goals on the season. Sophomore Sergei Raad added ten goals for Furman this year.

Furman, who outscored opponents 68-19 over the course of the 2001 season, finished the season ranked 17th in the final Soccer America poll after winning the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles and earning a spot in their third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
