FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO #5 NOTRE DAME 2-1 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

SOUTH BEND, IN. -- Greg Martin's goal at the 107:29 mark gave Notre Dame a 2-1 victory over Furman at the Mike Berticelli Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.

The match was scoreles until the 89th minute when Notre Dame's Chad Riley broke the tie as he bent a direct kick into the top right corner of Furman's goal.

Furman scored the equalizer with just 34 seconds remaining in regulation, as junior Kenneth Penn's shot from the top of the penalty box beat Notre Dame keeper Chris Sawyer. Penn was assisted on the play by sophomore Ricardo Clark.

After a scoreless first overtime, Notre Dame's Martin tipped in a deflected corner kick from three yards out to score the game-winner. Martin was assisted on the goal by Chad Riley and Rafael Garcia.

Notre Dame outshot the Paladins 20-9 for the match. Sophomore John Hanley made ten saves, keeping Furman in the game.

Kenneth Penn and Gray Griffin were selected to the all-tournament team.

Furman returns to action on Saturday night as it hosts UNCG. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.
