FURMAN'S CLARK AMONG SEVEN COLLEGIANS TO COMPETE WITH US UNDER-20 NATIONAL TEAM

CHICAGO -- Furman men's soccer standout Ricardo Clark was among 18 players chosen by U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team head coach Thomas Rongen for the USA's tour to Holland.

Seven collegians, four MLS players, and one European professional highlight the squad. In addition to Furman, Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, Washington, and Santa Clara are represented.

Clark is a sophomore for the Paladins. He recorded one assist as a freshman while battling injuries.

The tour will include participation in the Groningen International Tournament, as well as a friendly against rising African power Burkina Faso.  The team travels to Europe on May 15, before kicking off the tournament on May 17.

The U.S. Under-20s have posted a near-perfect 8-0-2 record in 2002, including a 1-0 win against Canada in the USA's only international match of the year. The Under-20s are preparing for World Championship qualifying that will take place later this year.

The U.S. opens the Groningen International Tournament on May 17 against FC Twente.  The 20s play twice on May 18, facing Qatar in the morning and hosts FC Groningen that afternoon.  On the tournament's third day - May 19 - the U.S. will play Newcastle United and Cruz Azul, before the tournament concludes with classification games on May 20. The U.S. travels to Amsterdam on May 21, and then takes on Burkina Faso on May 122 in Utrecht, before returning to the U.S. on May 23.
