TENTH RANKED FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS BUTLER 4-0

GREENVILLE -- The tenth ranked Furman men's soccer team defeated Butler 4-0 Friday night in the Spinx/Land Rover Furman Invitational as Scott Hoch scored twice.

Furman put the pressure on early as Scott Hoch scored at the 15:05 mark as he took a cross from Sergei Raad and one-touched it past Butler keeper Grant Barrie. Sergei Raad tallied a goal at the 33:27 mark as he headed in a Chefik Simo cross to the near post.

Furman, which played with a man advantage for the final sixty minutes of the match thanks to two yellow cards on Butler's Ryan Marques, kept the pressure on in the second half and scored two goals in the final ten minutes of the match to put it away.

Chefik Simo took a through ball from Sergei Raad and beat Barrie at the 84:04 mark, while Scott Hoch added his second goal of the night off a double assist from Anthony Esquivel and Matt Foxhall. Foxhall sent a ball into the box, where Esquivel flicked to Hoch as he drilled it in from three yards out.

"We played well and beat a good Butler team tonight," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "It was good to get the shutout and to create some very good scoring opportunities in the flow of play."
