FURMAN SOCCER TO HONOR GRIFFIN DURING ALUMNI WEEKEND FESTIVITIES

GREENVILLE -- The Furman men's soccer team will hold its annual Alumni weekend on April 25-26 and will include a special presentation in memory of the late Gray Griffin.

Philip Gray Griffin, a freshman member of Furman's 2002 men's soccer team, was killed October 11, 2002 in an automobile accident in Spartanburg, S.C.

Following the annual Alumni Game on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m., Furman Soccer will present Griffin's parents, Al and Doris Griffin, with the Gray Griffin Memorial Plaque, which will later be placed permanently in Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.

"This alumni weekend will be a great opportunity to honor the memory of Gray Griffin," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We appreciate Al and Doris Griffin being a part of this weekend. We look forward to placing a permanent memorial for Gray inside the stadium so future student-athletes and supporters will always know how important Gray was and still is to this program."

Furman's Alumni Weekend is an annual opportunity for Furman soccer alumnus from all classes to return for a weekend of activities, including golf and the alumni game pitting the current team vs. the alumni.
