FURMAN MENšS SOCCER TO HOST COASTAL CAROLINA IN EXHIBITION MATCH

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team will host Coastal Carolina Friday at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. The match is set for 5:00 p.m. and admission is free.

Furman, which returns seven starters from last year's team, is coming off a 17-5 season, three consecutive undefeated records in Southern Conference regular season and tournament play, and three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament. In addition, the Paladins enter the 2002 season looking to improve on a 33-match conference unbeaten streak that dates back to the start of the 1999 season.

Coastal Carolina is coming off a 10-8-3 record in which it finished tied for third in the Big South conference, and won the Big South conference tournament, before falling to Seton Hall in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

"We are very excited to see this 2002 season draw closer," said head coach Doug Allison. "Hopefully we will be able to use this exhibition match to evaluate our progress and identify areas that need improvement before we start regular season play next week."

The Paladins, who have been on campus participating in preseason workouts for almost two weeks, will open the regular season on August 30 against The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
