FURMAN MEN'S, WOMEN'S SOCCER TO PARTICIPATE IN AWAY TOURNAMENTS

GREEVILLE, SC ­ The fourth ranked Furman men's soccer will travel to Clemson this weekend to play in the Clemson/Nike Soccer Invitational, while the Furman women's soccer team is preparing to travel to Lexington, Kentucky to participate in the Traditional Bank Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky.

The Paladins are pitted against Virginia Commonwealth on Friday at 5:00 and will take on Cal-Poly on Sunday at 12:30.

The Lady Paladins will take on New Mexico on Friday at 5:00 and then Arizona State on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

Men's Soccer

Furman is currently 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Southern Conference. The Paladins are coming off a 4-0 win over College of Charleston on Tuesday.

"There are some great teams at this tournament," said menšs soccer head coach Doug Allison. "We will get to see the type of competition that we can expect down the stretch in the NCAA tournament."

Senior forward John Barry Nusum, a 2001 Hermann trophy candidate, was just named to Soccer Americašs Team-of-the-Week as well as the Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week as he became Furmanšs all-time leading goal scorer.

Furman is currently ranked in the Top Ten in three national polls. The Paladins are ranked fourth by Soccer America, fifth by College Soccer News, and eighth in the menšs media poll.

Women's Soccer

The Furman women's soccer team is currently 5-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in Southern Conference play. The Lady Paladins are coming off two big conference wins last weekend as they defeated Davidson 4-1 and UNC Greensboro 3-0.

"This tournament will provide some great competition for us," said head coach Brian Lee. "It will be a good measuring stick as to where we are right now in the season."

Furman is ranked ninth in the Southeast region by Soccer Buzz and tenth by the NSCAA.
