NUSUM EARNS THIRD ALL-AMERICA HONOR FOR 2001

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior forward John Barry Nusum was named first team All-America by Soccer America to add a third citation in 2001 to his already impressive resume.

Nusum, one of the top three vote-getters for the 2001 Hermann trophy, has already been named first team All-America by College Soccer News and the NSCAA.

Nusum will leave Furman as the Paladins' all-time leader in career goals and points with 61 goals and 161 points. He is only the 22nd male soccer player in history to garner All-American honors for three seasons and only the second Furman athlete to ever be selected three times.

Interestingly, Nusum's father also earned All-American honors in soccer for three seasons at what is now Philadelphia University.

"John Barry's list of awards keeps getting longer and longer," said head coach Doug Allison. "But he is a player who is deserving of every one of them. He has been a tremendously valuable part of our program."

Nusum will leave the Paladins after leading Furman to a 71-14-4 mark over his four year career. Furman captured four Southern Conference regular season titles, three SoCon Tournament titles, and earned bids to three consecutive NCAA Touraments during that time.
