FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER RANKED THIRD IN NATION; MATCHES HIGHEST EVER NATIONAL
RANKING
GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team improved one spot to third in the
latest Soccer America national poll to match its highest ever national ranking.
The last time the Paladins were ranked third in the nation was at the conclusion
the 1999 season as Furman was ranked third by Soccer America. The Paladins advanced
to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament that year.
Furman is also ranked fifth in the College Soccer News poll and is ranked sixth
in the NCAA Division I media poll. Furman won the Clemson/Nike Soccer Invitational
over the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Virginia Commonwealth and a 2-1 win
over Cal Poly. The Paladins also defeated College of Charleston 4-0 last week
as Doug Allison earned his 100th career victory.
Furman is currently 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.
The Paladins will take on the 13th ranked (SA) South Carolina Gamecocks on
Wednesday at 7:00 at home in a crucial in-state matchup with national implications.
South Carolina is also ranked eighth in the Menšs Media poll and seventh in
the College Soccer News poll.
