FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER TEAM RETURNS TO ACTION AGAINST THE CITADEL

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team will return to action Saturday with its Southern Conference opener against The Citadel Bulldogs at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium at 3:00 p.m.

The Paladins are currently 3-0 and ranked fourth in the Soccer America national poll. Furman is coming off an impressive showing with victories over Notre Dame and Florida International in the Umbro-Spinx Furman Invitational, but has not seen action in almost two weeks as the Butler Invitational, scheduled for last weekend, was cancelled due to the unfortunate events of the week. Furman was scheduled to play perennial powerhouse Indiana and tournament host Butler.

"Losing the chance to play in the Butler tournament was an unfortuante circumstance," said head coach Doug Allison. "But the guys are eager to start playing again, so we have to get focused on the games ahead of us now."

Allison enters the match with a 98-25-9 career record and is making an effort to become one of the fastest coaches in college soccer history to reach 100 career wins.

Furman met The Citadel twice last season. The Paladins defeated the Bulldogs 8-0 in the regular season and then 8-0 again in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament.
