FURMAN'S SCOTT BLOUNT NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior goalkeeper Scott Blount was named to the Verizon 2001 District III Menšs Soccer Academic Team.

Blount, a first-team Scholar Athlete All-American in 2000 and 2001, is a Business Administration and Economics double major with a 3.44 grade point average. Blount posted a 0.87 goals against average duringthe 2001 season while making 76 saves. He was also selected to the All-Southern Conference first team.

"Scott is an incredible goalkeeper and an incredible individual," said head coach Doug Allison. "He is a great example of how a student-athlete can balance academics and athletics and be successful in both."

The Paladins finished the 2001 season 17-5 after claiming the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles and earning a bid to their thrid consecutive NCAA Tournament.
