FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER ANNOUNCES 2002 CAPTAINS

GREENVILLE -- The Furman men's soccer team selected senior Andy Kidd and junior McNeil Cronin to be its 2002 team captains.

Kidd, a marking back from Jacksonville, has worked his way into the Paladin lineup over his career and has proved to be a stable part of the defensive rotation for Furman. Kidd recorded one assist during the 2001 season, bringing his career total to four, and was named to the 2001 Southern Conference all-tournament team.

Cronin, a sweeper from Winston-Salem, has been a regular part of the Furman lineup since joining the Paladins. He led the nation in assists in 2000 with 15 and was named to the Soccer America all-freshman team, as well as being honored as the Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Year. Cronin battled injuries during the 2001 campaign and recorded one assist in 12 matches on the season.

"I couldn't ask for better leaders on the field," said head coach Doug Allison. "These two guys will push their teammates every time we play."

Furman finished the 2001 season with a 17-5 record after winning the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles and earning a spot in the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
