FURMAN'S NUSUM NAMED FINALIST FOR MAC AWARD

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior forward John Barry Nusum was announced as one of 15 finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club men's Collegiate Soccer Player-of-the-Year.

Nusum, also a finalist for the 2001 Hermann Trophy, is Furman's all-time leader in goals with 55 and points with 148. Nusum is also second all-time in assists with 38. Last season, Nusum finished with a Furman single-season record 48 points as he earned his second consecutive first team All-America honor and his third All-Southern Conference selection. He is also a member of the Bermuda national team.

In 2001, Nusum entered the season as a preseason All-American selection by both collegesoccer.com and College Soccer News. He currently leads the Paladins in scoring with ten goals and six assists for 26 points.

"John Barry has proven time and again what a spectacular player he is," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "He is truly deserving of this award."

Nusum is the first Furman soccer player to be nominated for a national player-of-the-year award. Five Furman athletes have won such an honor. Beth Daniel (women's golf), Brad Faxon (men's golf), Jeff Blankenship (I-AA football), and Louis Ivory (1-AA football) each won player-of-the-year awards in their respective sports.

The M.A.C. award is the official award for Division I college soccer given by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas. The winner will be announced in early December and will be determined by a ballot voted on by the Division I coaches.
