FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO KENTUCKY 1-0

MIAMI, FLA­ The 15th ranked Furman men's soccer team lost 1-0 Friday night to Kentucky in the opening match of the FIU Soccer Classic in Miami, Fla.

Kentucky's Chris Soler scored the match's lone goal at the 38:58 mark in the first half off an assist from Antti Peltonen. Soler received a pass from Peltonen and beat Furman goalkeeper Scott Blount 1 vs. 1 for what turned out to be the game-winner.

Furman increased its pressure in the second half and had several chances to even the score, but were unable to find the back of the net as the Wildcat defense held for the shutout.

Furman falls to 10-4 on the season and suffers its first loss to an unranked opponent since September 15 of last year.

"I am disapointed with our performance today," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We are not playing smart soccer right now and we are not taking advantage of opportunities. Kentucky played a great match today."

Furman will take on Michigan Sunday in the in the FIU Soccer Classic at 11:30 a.m.
