NO. 13 FURMAN DROPS GEORGIA SOUTHERN 3-0
GREENVILLE -- The thirteenth ranked Furman men's soccer team downed conference foe Georgia Southern 3-0 Wednesday night at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.
Furman sophomore Scott Hoch put the Paladins on the board early at the 8:52 mark as he knocked in a shot from ten yards out after receiving a pass from freshman Clint Dempsey. The Paladins continued with a barrage of shots through the first half as they held Georgia Southern without a first half shot attempt.
In the second half, Furman continued to put the pressure on and finally extended its lead to 2-0 at the 83:21 mark as Dempsey slotted a shot past Georgia Southern keeper Garret Lazenby after receiving a dish from Anthony Esquivel.
Furman added a third goal as Esquivel won the ball at midfield and shot to an open goal for the 3-0 cushion at the 89:33 mark. Furman outshot Georgia Southern 27-3 on the night and attempted 12 corner kicks to the Eagles one.
Furman extends its best start in school history as the Paladins improve to 9-1 on the season, 4-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman has outscored conference opponents 16-1 in those four matches.
The Paladins return to action Sunday at UAB and will host Clemson next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
