FURMAN'S DEMPSEY EARNS SECOND ALL-FRESHMAN HONOR

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman Clint Dempsey was named to Soccer America's all-freshman team this week, touting him as one of the top freshman in college soccer for the 2001 season.

Earlier in the month, Dempsey was named to the College Soccer News all-freshman team as well. Dempsey, a midfielder from Nacogdoches, Texas, scored four goals and tallied eight assists for 16 points for a Furman team that led the nation in scoring with a 3.09 goals per match average.

Dempsey started 21 of the Paladins' 22 matches in 2001. Dempsey was one of only two players from the South region to make the all-freshman team as North Carolina forward Marcus Storey was also selected.

"Clint is a great player with a great career ahead of him," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "I think that he deserves this recognition because he had a spectacular freshman year."

Furman finished the 2001 season with a 17-5 record after winning its fourth straight Southern Conference regular season title, its third consecutive SoCon Tournament title, and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. The Paladins wrapped up the year ranked 17th in the final Soccer America poll.
