JOHN BARRY NUSUM NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICA; BLOUNT AND GOLDSMITH ALSO HONORED

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman senior forward John Barry Nusum added another all-America selection to his impressive resume as he was named first team All-American by College Soccer News on Tuesday. Furman seniors Scott Blount and Matt Goldsmith earned honorable mention recognition for the Paladins.

Nusum will leave Furman as the Paladins' all-time leader in career goals and points with 61 goals and 161 points. Nusum was named first team All-America by the NSCAA earlier this month for the third consecutive season and was one of the top three vote-getters for the 2001 Hermann Trophy.

Matt Goldsmith leaves Furman with 12 career goals and 14 career assists. Goldsmith has earned an all-America citation in each of his four years at Furman. He and Nusum were also recently selected to participate in the Umbro Select All-Star Weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in February.

Scott Blount, a two-time captain, will leave Furman ranked second all-time in shutouts and fourth in saves. Blount, who has a career goals against average of 0.81, was recently named first team Scholar Athlete All-American for the second consecutive season.

"There is so much that could be said about these three guys," said head coach Doug Allison. "Each is a great player who has contributed a lot to this program."

This trio of seniors will leave Furman with a 71-14-4 mark over the last four years including four Southern Conference regular season championships, three SoCon Tournament titles, and three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
