FURMAN'S BLOUNT EARNS SECOND TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's Scott Blount, a senior from Brentwood, Tennessee, was named to the Verizon Academic All-America Men's Soccer second team this week.

Last month, Blount was named a member of the Verizon 2001 District III Men's Soccer Academic Team.

Blount, a Business Administration and Economics double major, has a 3.44 grade point average and was named a first team Scholar Athlete All-American in both 2000 and 2001. Blount made 76 saves during the 2001 season and posted a 0.87 goals against average as he was selected to the All-Southern Conference first team.

"Scott is one of the best all-around student-athletes that we have ever had in our program," said head coach Doug Allison. "It is wonderful to see someone who is equally successful in the classroom and on the playing field."

Fuman wrapped up the 2001 season with a 17-5 record after claiming its fourth consecutive Southern Conference regular season title, its third straight SoCon Tournament title, and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
