SCOTT BLOUNT SELECTED TO NSCAA SCHOLAR ALL AMERICA FIRST TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- For the second straight year, Furman men's soccer standout Scott Blount was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America First Team. Blount was also a second team choice in 1999.

The award honors Blount as the top all-around goalkeeper in college for the second time and keeps Blount in the running for the NSCAA Scholar-Athlete Award. The teams are selected from all collegiate soccer players in all divisions of the NCAA nationwide. To be eligible, each student-athlete must be a junior, have a minimum GPA of 3.3 and be a valuable member of their team.

Blount joins the University of Puget Sound's Ryan Wittstruck as the only three-time scholar athlete team members.

Scott Blount (Brentwood, Tennessee), a fifth year senior, is a double major in Business Administration and Economics with a 3.4 Grade Point Average.

Blount is now one of 11 finalists for the NSCAA/adidas College Scholar-Athlete award, which will be awarded next week.

Blount has been Furman's starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons and has tallied a 0.81 Goals Against Average over his career while making 254 saves.

"Scott Blount is a tremendous student-athlete," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "He has meant so much to this program both on and off the soccer field over his career. He is an example to our younger players as to what being a Furman athlete is all about."

Blount joins fellow senior John Barry Nusum as three-time All-Americans. Nusum recently earned his third straight NSCAA First Team All-America citation.

Furman concluded the 2001 season with a 17-5 record and earned its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Paladins also won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles.
