THIRD RANKED FURMAN DOWNS APPALACHIAN STATE 4-1

BOONE, N.C. ­ The third ranked Furman men's soccer team defeated SoCon foe Appalachian State 4-1 Saturday afternoon in Boone, N.C.

Furman's Asgeir Asgeirsson opened the scoring at the 23:59 mark in the first half on a set piece as Furman held the 1-0 lead through intermission.

The first score of the second half was at 59:05 by Furmanšs Scott Hoch, assisted by Sergei Raad. The Paladins struck again at 76:04 when Andy Chase scored an unassisted goal. Raad finished off the Furman scoring at the 80:41 mark, also unassisted. Fowler was able to net one for the Mountaineers in the waning minutes of the contest at 88:30, taking the assist from Jordy Broder.

Furman returns to action Wednesday night as the Paladins host Georgia Southern. Furman improves to 8-1 on the year, the best start in school history. The Paladins are 3-0 in the SoCon. Appalachian State falls to 5-3 on the year, 1-2 in league play.

Furman is currently ranked third in the nation by Soccer America, fifth in the College Soccer News poll, and sixth in the Men's Media poll.
