FURMAN'S CLINT DEMPSEY NAMED TO ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's Clint Dempsey was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman team, becoming only the second player in Furman Soccer history to earn such an honor.

Dempsey, a freshman from Nacogdoces, Texas, was named the Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Year earlier in the year and was selected as second team all-conference.

Dempsey started 21 of Furman's 22 matches this season and was the only Furman freshman to see action in all of the Paladins' matches. Dempsey scored four goals and recorded eight assists for 16 points for a Furman offense that led the nation in scoring by averaging 3.09 goals per match.

"Clint is a very exciting player to coach," said head coach Doug Allison. "He is a player that we expect great things from in the rest of his Furman career."

Furman finished the 2001 season 17-5 after claiming its fourth straight Southern Conference regular season title, its third consecutive SoCon tournament title, and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
