UAB STUNS SIXTH RANKED PALADINS

GREENVILLE, SC -- The University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers shocked the sixth-ranked Furman men's soccer team Sunday with a 2-1 overtime victory.

UAB's Lane Knight scored the game winner 12 minutes into the first overtime period off an assist by Jose Rayo.

After neither teamed scored in the first 83 minutes, Furman took a 1-0 lead off a header by Carl Junot. Junotıs fourth goal of the season came off assists by Jack Handy and McNeil Cronin. The Blazers returned the favor just 31 seconds later on a goal by Flavio Monteiro. Knight's overtime winner came in the 103rd minute of the match.

The loss for the Paladins ends a six-match winning streak. Furman's last lost, on September 15th, also occurred after the Paladins had climbed to number six in the national polls.

With the defeat, the Paladins fall to 10-2 on the season. UAB improves their record to 7-3-1 with the win. Furmanıs next match will be Wednesday when the Paladins travel to Spartanburg to take on Wofford.
