	September 9, 2000 Release: Upon Receipt FURMAN SOCCER MOVES TO 3-0 WITH 8-0 WIN OVER BELMONT GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Paladin soccer team moved to 3-0 on the year with a convincing 8-0 win over Belmont Saturday at Eugene Stone Stadium. Junior John Barry Nusum started the Paladin scoring just 2:36 into the match, with a header off a McNeil Cronin corner kick and Vaughn Bethell dish. Less than four minutes later Carl Junot extended the Furman lead, scoring on a free kick that rifled past Bruins goalkeeper Stuart Grant. At the 42:39 mark, sophomore forward Jody Keeling headed in an Anthony Esquivel cross to give Furman a commanding 3-0 lead entering the break. Furman continued its scoring frenzy early in the second half when freshman Kenneth Penn scored his first career goal by intercepting a Patrick Tanner kick just in front of the Belmont goal, and dumping it in past the Bruin defense. Four minutes later the Paladin assault continued when Tanner was on the receiving end of a Sean Nickerson pass, which he converted into the Paladins' fifth goal of the day. Anthony Esquivel's first goal of the year was the Paladins' sixth against the Bruins, and came off a John Barry Nusum pass at the 57:28 mark. Sophomore John Robert Foster added his first goal of the season 71:54 into the game when he knocked in a ball that ricocheted off a Belmont defender, and Furman scored its final goal at the 86:06 mark, when Alex Pereira tallied his first career goal, and Sean Nickerson claimed his second assist of the day. "I was glad a lot of people were able to play today," said head coach Doug Allison. "It's nice for them to get experience and nice for us to be 3-0 heading into Tuesday's big match against UNC Greensboro. A lot of people got their first goal today, and that made it fun for everyone." Furman will face the Spartans of Greensboro on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in a 7 p.m. match at Eugene Stone Stadium.
