GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman men's soccer coach Doug Allison officially released his 2000 fall schedule on Wednesday.
For the first time since Allisonšs arrival, Furman will host a tournament at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. The Umbro/Spinx Furman Invitational will feature matches against Stetson and South Florida on September 15 and 17. Also on the Paladin home schedule is a matchup against fellow quarterfinalist UAB on October 8.
Furman will renew its rivalries with South Carolina and Clemson on the road this season as the Paladins face USC on October 15 and Clemson on October 25. Last season, Furman tied South Carolina and defeated Clemson in overtime.
The Paladins will also participate in the Nike/Clemson Invitational for the third straight season with matches against Cal. State Fullerton and Brown.
Furman opens the season on September 1 against Georgia State in Coastal Carolinašs tournament in Conway, S.C.
"I think this schedule will challenge us this season," said Allison. "There are going to be some good Southern Conference teams and our non-conference schedule is always tough."
Furman is coming off its best season in school history as the 1999 Paladins advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, concluded the season ranked No. 3 in the nation by Soccer America, and posted a 21-2-1 overall record.
Furman is ranked fifth in the nation in the NSCAA preseason poll.
