THREE PALADINS SELECTED TO SOCON PRESEASON TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team placed three players on the Southern Conference preseason all-league team, it was announced today.

Forward John Barry Nusum, midfielder Matt Goldsmith, and goalkeeper Scott Blount made up the Furman contingent.

John Barry Nusum and Matt Goldsmith were both All Americans last year and are preseason All American selections by College Soccer Online this season. Nusum led the team in scoring last year with 17 goals and 9 assists. Goldsmith was a member of the 1999 United States Under 20 National Team that competed in the FIFA World Youth Championships. Scott Blount led the conference a year ago with a remarkable 0.68 goals against average.

Furman opens the 2000 season ranked No. 5 by the NSCAA. The Paladins were also the unanimous choice among eligible voters in the Southern Conference preseason coach¹s poll.

Furman opens the season September 1 against Georgia State in Conway, S.C.
