GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer team begins its quest to repeat as Southern Confernece champions and build on last season's record setting campaign Friday at 5 p.m. at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium agianst Georgia State.
The match was orinially scheduled to be part of the Coastal Carolina tournament, but was moved to Greenville earlier this week.
Soccer America announced its 2000 preseason All Americans On Thursday and Furman placed two players on the first team. Matt Goldsmith and John Barry Nusum were each tabbed as first team All Americans. Earlier this month, Goldsmith (1st Team) and Nusum (2nd Team) were picked as preseason All Americans by College Soccer Online. Both players were selected as All Americans at the end of last season.
Last year, the Paladins posted a 21-2-1 record, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, and finished the season ranked No. 3 by Soccer America and No. 5 by the NSCAA.
Furman is ranked fifth in the nation in the NSCAA preseason national poll and tenth in the Soccer America preseason poll. The Paldins were a unanimous pick among league coaches to win the Southern Conference title.
