FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER CLIMBS TO 11TH IN NATIONAL POLLS

GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman men's soccer improved to 11th in the latest Soccer America national poll after winning two Southern Conference matches last week to clinch the 2000 SoCon regular season title.

The Paladins defeated Georgia Southern 3-0 and Davidson 2-0 as John Barry Nusum scored two goals and recorded two assists on the week to earn SoCon player-of-the-week honors. Scott Blount recorded two shutouts.

Furman has now won three SoCon regular season titles in a row and ten of the last 11 titles. Furman is currently fourth in the nation in points per match and place eighth in team goals against average.All American forward John Barry Nusum is tenth in the nation in points per match.

The Paladins travel to Clemson Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a key in-state battle with NCAA Tournament significance.

Furman is also ranked 14th in the NCAA Division I media poll, 14th in the NSCAA poll, and 11th in the Soccer Times national poll. The Paladins are ranked third in the NSCAA South Region poll.
