FURMAN'S GOLDSMITH NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman All American Matt Goldsmith was named Southern Conference player-of-the-week on Tuesday.

Goldsmith scored the game-winner in overtime as the Paladins downed Gerogia State 1-0 in their season opener. It was the fourth time in Goldsmith¹s career that he scored the game-winner in a 1-0 Paladin victory.

Matt Goldsmith was a second team All American last season by the NSCAA and College Soccer Online. This preseason, he has been honored as a first team preseason All American by Soccer America and College Soccer Online.

Goldsmith was a starter on the U.S. Under 20 National Team which competed in the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championships.

Furman is 1-0 on the season and ranked ninth in the nation in the Soccer America and NCAA Media polls and ranked 17th in the NSCAA poll.

Last year, the Paladins posted a 21-2-1 record, advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, and finished the season ranked No. 3 by Soccer America and No. 5 by the NSCAA.
