FURMAN'S CRONIN NAMED TO SOCCER AMERICA ALL FRESHMAN TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman sweeper McNeil Cronin was named to the Soccer America All-Freshman Team on Monday as one of the top 11 freshman in Division I.

Cronin, the Southern Conference freshman-of-the-year, tied for the national lead in assists with 15. He started all 23 matches at sweeper as he helped anchor the Paladin defense.

Cronin was also an honorable mention All America by College Soccer Online and a third team NSCAA All South Region selection. He was named Defensive MVP of the Clemson/Nike Invitational in October and was a first team All Southern Conference choice.

"I am pleased to see Soccer America recognize McNeil as one of the top freshman in the country," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "It is not easy for a freshman to start as a sweeper because the position demands lot of leadership skills, but McNeil did a remarkable job."

Cronin, is a 2000 graduate of Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., but played at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., for three years before transferring to Mt. Tabor.
