FURMAN'S CRONIN NAMED TO SOCCER AMERICA TEAM OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman sweeper McNeil Cronin was named to the Soccer America Team-of-the-Week on Wednesday.

Cronin was named Defensive MVP of the Clemson/Nike Invitational last weekend, a tournament that featured four nationally ranked teams. In addition to anchoring the Paladin defense, Cronin recorded two assists in wins over Cal. State Fullerton and Brown.

Furman improved to 9-1 over the weekend with a 2-1 overtime win over Cal. State Fullerton and a 2-0 shutout of Brown. Furman is currently ranked sixth in the nation in the Soccer America poll.

"I am pleased to see Soccer America recognize McNeil with this award," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "He had an excellent weekend and was a big part of the reason we beat Brown and Cal. State Fullerton. The sweeper position is a demanding, leadership oriented position and for a freshman to be playing so well at that spot is a testament to the type of player McNeil is."

Cronin, who has started all 10 matches for the Paladins this season, has five assists on the year. Cronin is a 2000 graduate of Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., but played at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., for three years before transferring to Mt. Tabor.
