SCOTT BLOUNT EARNS REGIONAL ACADEMIC AWARD

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman men's soccer standout Scott Blount was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Region Scholar Athlete First Team this week.

Scott Blount is a junior Economics major from Brentwood, Tennessee with a 3.58 Grade Point Average. This is the second straight year that he has earned first team Scholar Athlete South Region honors. He was also an NSCAA Scholar Athlete All America last year and is a strong candidate for All America honors this year, to be announced later this month.

Blount has been Furman's starting goalkeeper for the past two seasons and has tallied a 0.78 Goals Against Average over his career. Blount has recorded 23 shutouts in his career while making 178 saves.

Only 11 Division I athletes were selected to one of the two South Region squads, which comprises schools in all Divisions from Texas through North Carolina. Scott represents the ninth Furman player to earn NSCAA Scholar Athlete honors since 1996.

Furman concluded the 2000 season with a 17-4-2 record and earned its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Paladins also won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles.
