GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman men's soccer standout Scott Blount received the top individual honor of his career as he was recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All America First Team.

The award honors Blount as the top all-around goalkeeper in college soccer. The teams are selected from all collegiate soccer players in all divisions of the NCAA nationwide. To be eligible, each student-athlete must be a junior, have a minimum GPA of 3.3 and be a valuable member of their team.

Blount is now one of 11 finalists for the NSCAA/adidas College Scholar-Athlete award, which will be presented January 20, 2001 at the All America Luncheon held as part of the NSCAA Convention. Blount has been Furmanšs starting goalkeeper for the past two seasons and has tallied a 0.78 Goals Against Average over his career. Blount has recorded 23 shutouts in his career while making 178 saves.

"This is quite an honor for Scott and our program," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "Scott is the perfect example of what Furman Athletics is all about - hešs one of the top goalkeepers in the nation and does an excellent job in the classroom."

Furman concluded the 2000 season with a 17-4-2 record and earned its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Paladins also won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles.
