FURMAN'S NUSUM ADDS ANOTHER FIRST TEAM ALL AMERICAN HONOR

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's John Barry Nusum added another first team All American honor to his impressive resume as the junior forward was selected to the College Soccer Online first team this weekend.

The College Soccer Online recognition is the second of the 2000 season and the third first team All America citation for the junior as he was a 1999 and 2000 NSCAA first team All choice.

Also honored were junior Matt Goldsmith and freshman McNeil Cronin as honorable mention All Americans. Junior forward John Barry Nusum broke the Furman single season point record as he registered 48 points on 18 goals and 12 assists in 2000.

Though only a junior, Nusum became Furmanšs all-time leader in career points this season with 122 points as he hasscored 45 goals and recorded 32 assists over his three year career. One of the most exciting players in the nation, Nusum finished fifth in the nation in points.

Junior defender/midfielder Matt Goldsmith is a former member of the U.S. Under 20 National Team. Goldsmith finished the year with four goals and seven assists. This is the fifth All America citation of some sort for Goldsmith over his career as he was a 1998 CSO honorable mention pick and a 1999 CSO second team selection as well as an NSCAA second team pick in 1999 and third team choice in 2000.

Freshman McNeil Cronin excelled as Furmanšs sweeper during the 2000 campaign despite playing a position normally reserved for upperclassmen. Cronin, the Southern Conference freshman-of-the-year, also added an offensive punch as he led the nation with 15 assists.

Furman concluded the 2000 season with a 17-4-2 record and earned its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Paladins also won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles.
