Furman Beats #18 South Florida 2-1

Birmingham, AL - The Furman men's soccer team defeated 18th ranked South Florida 2-1 in the Paladin's season opener in Birmingham, Ala.

Sophomore John Barry Nusum scored both goals for the Paladins, the game winner coming in the match's 78th minute off a Seth Marks assist.

Nusum, Furman's leading scorer in 1998, connected on his first goal of the season at the 22:45 mark off a John Bradford, Paul Leese doubles assist. Furman took a 1-0 lead into halftime, before seeing USF tie the score eight minutes into the second half. The match remained tied at 1-1 until Nusum scored the game winner just 30 seconds after re-entering the match late in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Scott Blount made a remarkable save in the final minute of the match to preserve the victory.
