ALLISON, ALVAREZ HELP LEAD EAST TO VICTORY

GREENVILLE, SC -- Doug Allison, who has tallied a 68-21-7 record in five seasons as head coach of Furman's men's soccer program, can now claim a 3-0 record in all-star games.

Allison was selected as co-coach of the East All Stars in the Umbro Select All-Star Classic last weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Allison co-coached the team with Miami Fusion head coach Ivo Wortman. The East All-Stars defeated the A-League All-Stars 2-1 in the first matchup and downed the MLS Project-40 team 1-0 in tuneup matches for the East-West game. In the featured match, the East All-Stars edged the West All-Stars 2-1 on a last minute goal by Southern Connecticut State's Alex Rincon.

Furman senior Daniel Alvarez was a member of Allison's East squad and played well, according to Allison. Alvarez was drafted in the fourth round of the MLS SuperDraft by the MetroStars on Sunday.

"It was a great experience to be able to work with these kids last weekend. Not only were they some of the best soccer players in the country, but they were fantastic people. I enjoyed coaching Daniel Alvarez one last time. I wish Daniel and each of the other players the best of luck at the next level of soccer."
