FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER RISES IN NATIONAL POLLS

GREENVILLE -- The Furman University men's soccer team improved to 11th in the nation in the latest NSCAA poll after winning two Southern Conference matches last week. The Paladins are ranked 13th in both the Soccer Times and Soccer America polls.

The Paladins' ranking of 11th ties the highest mark Furman has ever achieved in the coaches' poll. Furman was ranked 11th in the NSCAA poll on September 13 of this season and was 11th on October 12, 1996. Furman's highest-ever soccer ranking was a 10th place showing in the October 12, 1996 Soccer America poll.

Furman defeated Wofford 7-1 and The Citadel 4-0 last week. The Paladins scored in the match's opening minute in both matches as John Barry Nusum scored at the 16 second mark vs. Wofford and Daniel Alvarez scored 35 seconds into the match against The Citadel.

The Paladins, 9-1-1, are ranked third in the South Region. Furman will has two key Southern Conference matches this week on the road as the Paladins play Appalachian State Tuesday night and UNC Greensboro Saturdayat 7 p.m.
