FURMAN MEN'S SOCCER RISES TO 11TH IN NATION

GREENVILLE -- The Furman University men's soccer improved to 11th in the NSCAA national poll, matching their highest-ever NSCAA ranking. Furman is also ranked 13th in the Soccer Times national poll and 15th in the nation in the Soccer America national poll.

Furman downed Belmont 4-1 and Georgia State 3-1 last week.

The Paladins, 4-0, are ranked second in the South Region behind Duke. Furman travels to Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday to face UNC Charlotte and will host Elon on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Two Paladins are leading the Southern Conference statistically as goalkeeper Scott Blount is leading the conference with a 0.74 goals against average and midfielder Daniel Alvarez leads the conference with three assists on the season. Blount recorded a number of awards last week as he was named MVP of the UAB/Nike Classic, Southern Conference co-player-of-the-week, and to the Soccer America team-of-the-week. Alvarez is now only five assists away from tying the school record for assists in a career.
