FURMAN'S GOLDSMITH NAMED TO SOCCER AMERICA TEAM OF THE WEEK
GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's Matt Goldsmith was named to the Soccer America Team-of-the-Week after scoring the game-winning goal in Furman's 1-0 victory over Radford in an NCAA play-in match last weekend.
Goldsmith, a sophomore from Roswell, Ga., has helped guide the Paladins to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1993. He has scored four goals on the season and plays primarily as a defender or midfielder. Goldsmith is also a member of the U.S. Under 20 National Team.
The Paladins are ranked third in the nation in final Soccer America poll, its highest-ever national ranking.
"Matt is a tremendous player," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "He has played great this season and has been instrumental in our success."
Furman is currently 19-1-1 overall and holds the nation's longest winning streak. The Paladins host North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Goldsmith's selection marks the fourth time this season that a Paladin has made the Soccer America Team-of-the-Week as Scott Blount, Stephen Rodriguez, and Graham Seagraves each made the team earlier this season.
