FURMAN SOCCER DOWNS ELON 2-0
GREENVILLE -- The 11th ranked Furman men's soccer team defeated Elon 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium as junior forward Carl Junot scored a pair of goals.
Junot put the Paladins on the board at the 9:41 mark as he slid a shot past Elon keeper Scott Wahl. Stephen Rodriguez and John Barry Nusum were credited with the assists.
The score remained 1-0 until the 47:30 mark of the second half when Junot knocked in his second goal of the night off a Daniel Alvarez assist.
Furman dominated play, outshooting the Fighting Christians 26-4 on the match. Elon keeper Scott Wahl recorded seven saves on the afternoon.
"It's great to get another win and to register a shutout ," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "We have a tough week in front of us and it is imperative that we stay focused and step our play up a notch."
Furman improves to 5-0, while Elon falls to 2-3 on the season. The Paladins travel to Charleston for their first Southern Conference match of the season on Tuesday against the College of Charleston before returning home for a big matchup with South Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m.
